Secure your high pressure job…

Today’s jobs are demanding. Surviving in a high pressure job, with a good salary for more than a couple of years is itself an achievement. Here are ten tips which you may find useful.

Assuming that you have a job and working for some time…

1.Keep yourself posted on the latest happenings in the Industry. Mint fresh. Back your facts with figures. This will help to put your performance in perspective and the company’s performance too.

2.Ensure that you waste least time on areas which are not your focus. Many a times, senior executives are given additional responsibilities, but these are never discussed during the performance review.

3. Be modest in setting your targets. Remember, if your company is setting higher than normal targets, then they are either pushing too much or in dire straits. If either is the case, set your own target and work towards it. It is important to work on targets which are possible. Keep informing your boss about the unreasonable expectations.

4.Never exploit your company’s perks to the max. This earns you respect and tells your employer you are not a greedy employee.

5.Identify the latest trends in your line of job. Be able to adapt to those or try and better still, set a new trend. There should be some link the value chain which can be leveraged.

6.Do not defend your below par performance with excuses. It will not stand for a long time.

7.Make yourself invaluable by gaining more areas of expertise than your job demands. This will make the employer think of the lower overall cost you can offer. Make sure that this counts in your list of responsibilities.

8.Learn to relax, on a daily basis. Yoga is the best for me. I have tried many other alternatives, but believe me, Yoga is up there on the list.

9.Be cool about the pressure your Boss exerts. Remember, he is under pressure too. He has only a few on whom he can exert his pressure.

10.Lastly, but not the least, Do well. It will keep everyone quiet.
